KDN Proposes MyDigital ID for Saman Payments

The Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) has put forward a proposal to integrate MyDigital ID as a method for paying traffic summons (saman). According to Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, in a statement to Berita Harian, the use of the MyDigital ID app would not be made compulsory at this stage. However, he emphasized that this initiative aligns with the government's broader digitalization policy aimed at improving public service efficiency.

This idea is still in its early stages and has yet to be formally debated or approved in Parliament,” he explained. “Our objective is to encourage Malaysians to start adopting this application for identity verification during any form of digital transaction,” he added.

In support of this initiative, the government has agreed to amend the National Registration Act 1959, which would provide the legal framework to enable the use of MyDigital ID across various platforms. Moving forward, all transactions under the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) will begin prioritizing users who are registered with MyDigital ID.

To further incentivize the use of the app, Saifuddin suggested that additional benefits may be introduced. “In the past, JSPT has offered saman discounts of up to 50%. With MyDigital ID, we may increase that to 55% for registered users,” he said. He also highlighted the simplicity of the registration process, stating that it can be completed easily via mobile phone within just a few moments.

This move represents part of the government’s continuous efforts to enhance digital governance and streamline services for the citizens.
