What is the Social Security Organization (SOCSO)?

The Social Security Organization (SOCSO) was established on January 1, 1971, under the Employees' Social Security Act 1969. It operates under Malaysia’s Ministry of Human Resources and manages two key social security schemes:

1️⃣ Employment Injury Scheme
Provides coverage for employees who suffer from work-related accidents, occupational diseases, or injuries while performing job duties.

2️⃣ Invalidity Scheme
Offers 24-hour protection for employees who experience disability or death due to any cause, whether work-related or not.
Why was SOCSO created?
SOCSO was introduced to ensure employees and their families have financial protection and benefits in the event of unexpected incidents.

📜 Historical Background:
• 1958 – Malaysia first introduced the idea of a social security scheme.
• 1962 – A high-level committee was formed to review a study conducted by the International Labour Organization (ILO) on social security.
• 1969 – Findings from this study formed the foundation of the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969, which was passed by the Malaysian Parliament.

SOCSO continues to play a critical role in providing financial safety nets for employees across Malaysia.
